QUESTION
How can I use the Images in the Sim's Carnival Game Creator's Asset Pack?
Answer
When you download the Sim's Carnival Game Creator, you'll find that an Asset Pack has been included. The Asset Pack is a handy folder of audio and image assets designed to make game creation quick and easy. From backgrounds to characters, scenery and props, the Asset Pack contains everything you need to start building the fiction of your game.
Here's some quick information so you can familiarize yourself with the Asset Pack
- Use PNGs for any art assets that need transparency. PNGs support alpha transparency, which means the edges of your images will look nice and smooth. On the other hand, image formats such as GIFs use a different algorithm that can result in jagged edges.
- An animated PNG, or APNG is a new format that strings several PNGs together to create an animation. You'll find a wide selection of APNGs to get you started, but keep in mind that for better control, you should edit these using the Image Manager.
- Any asset that contains the suffix _ANIM.png denotes that the item contains more than one frame (such as set or scenery pieces)
- We have provided a variety of Art Asset Sample MGZ files to illustrate how to use our APNGs to create animations. Feel free to copy and paste these examples into your own games.
- Explore! We listened as our users told us they wanted to create more coherent stories. We included whole groups of images that can fit into a particular theme: background, props, scenery, we tried to include it all. For example, we included an entire folder with space assets such as planets, aliens, UFOs, rockets, and much more.
